Shinto-Style Japanese Wedding

The Millbrook High School Japan Club, working with the Mid-Hudson Japanese Community Association and Mrs. Midori Shinye, organized a Shinto-style Japanese wedding demonstration at the High School on Saturday, August 11, 2018.  This cultural performance was made possible by a grant from the Millbrook Educational Foundation.   Japan Club members spent hours over the summer creating the decorations, practicing Japanese, and wearing kimonos.  Members also learned the "art" of walking in traditional Japanese sandals called zori.  Over 100 people from the community attended the ceremony, which was also supported by donations from Arts Mid-Hudson, the Japanese Educational Institute, and other local groups.  Special thanks to the High School staff and custodians for their help!
