MHS Students Participated In A Cappella Invitational

On Friday, February 10th, the Blazer Belles participated in the 3rd Annual A Cappella Invitational hosted by Hyde Park at FDR High School. Our ladies spent the afternoon in an a cappella workshop presented by the Vassar Devils, along with 6 other area high school a cappella groups, including FDR's Presidents Men and First Ladies, as well as the Dover Treblemakers. Each group then presented a concert performance featuring that evening - special thanks to FDR for inviting and hosting us!

Additionally, the Blazer Belles and MHS Jazz Band presented our annual Valentine's Cabaret Concert on February 16th in the MHS Cafeteria - though occurring on a particularly busy night due to the snow date, it was very well attended and a successful fundraiser for the Millbrook Music Boosters!

This has been an annual tradition for many years where students can talk about their project/experiments and get input from the experts.

Dr. Esposito, Dr. Lochet, Ms. Forster, Mr. Ross, and Mrs. Kelly met with the students and were able to guide them in their upcoming endeavor for the science fair. We are very grateful that they take time out of their busy schedules to meet with our future scientists.

National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony Held On January 25th

On Wednesday, January 25th, twenty-four 8th grade students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. These students exemplify the four pillars of NJHS: leadership, scholarship, character and service. Mrs Knapp, NJHS advisor, opened the event and was joined by four members inducted last year, who explained the four pillars and encouraged inductees to continue to uphold each one. In her closing remarks Dr. Amori urged these "best and brightest" to serve others in unity to promote harmony and discourse.

Millbrook High School Receives International Baccalaureate Authorization

****Press Release****

IB Logo

On January 20, 2017, the Millbrook Central School District received official correspondence authorizing the Millbrook High School to become an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. Starting in September of 2017, the Millbrook High School will offer IB Diploma Programme courses.

The application process took approximately two years and involved two site visits and an intensive program review. Administrators and teachers attended training sessions as part of the application process.

Caroline Pidala, High School principal stated: “I have had the most fortunate experience of facilitating this process with an outstandingly talented faculty. Our teachers have a thirst for knowledge and on-going improvement of their craft. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the hard work and dedication in a learning community that supports its academic programs.”

As an IB school, the Millbrook High School will be part of a global community of schools committed to developing knowledgeable, caring young people who will be ready to negotiate their futures successfully and make contributions resulting in a more harmonious and peaceful world. The positive results of the International Baccalaureate Programme will become evident in our community as classes of the Diploma Programme students graduate and undertake activities that enhance social, cultural and economic environments locally, nationally and internationally.

Philip D’Angelo, Superintendent of Schools, stated: “the IB Programme is a capstone of the Board of Education & Administrative District goals to enhance the educational opportunities for students in the Millbrook Central School District.”

The Millbrook Central School District is the second Dutchess County school district to achieve this authorization. The Red Hook Central School District is an IB Diploma Programme school. The authorization letter from the IB Programme closed by stating: “Best wishes as you embark on your journey with the Diploma Programme. We look forward to working closely with you to realize our shared vision of a better and more peaceful world, achieved through intercultural understanding and respect.

Mr. D’Angelo and Ms. Pidala are excited about the educational opportunities that being an IB Diploma School will provide for the students at the Millbrook High School.
