The season began with a COVID delay forcing the team to be ready to play in only one week. The players worked very hard, and with the strong leadership of the three seniors, Sam Erdt, Haley Kozera and Rebecca Quick, opened the season with an 8-0 victory over Pine Plains. The team was dominant, and posted a final record of 9 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie - the best soccer season in recent history. The Blazers scored 37 goals and gave up only one goal all season. Sophomore Hudson Heitmann led the team in scoring with 9 goals, and 8 different players scored multiple goals. The defense was remarkable. Opponents averaged less than 2 shots on goal per game, largely due to the play of sophomore Emily Grasseler who controlled the space in front of the goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Ella Wilson recorded 9 shutouts.
The team earned the #1 seed in the playoffs, and shut out Rhinebeck in the semi-final, 2-0. Our opponent in the finals, SS Seward, had to forfeit the Championship game when it was learned that the team had been exposed to COVID during their semi-final match. While the Blazers were disappointed to not play the final game, we celebrate a truly remarkable season where every player contributed to our success as Section 9 champs again! Congratulations!
